Ph.D. Students in French can also obtain a Ph.D. Certificate in Romance Linguistics and in Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE). In keeping with our tradition, core courses in all our degree programs are taught primarily in French and often related to current research projects by department faculty.
A clear sign of the Department's strong interdisciplinary orientation and commitment are the multiple affiliations that our faculty have with other units on campus such as the Departments of Linguistics, African American Studies, Media and Cinema Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, the Programs in Medieval Studies and Comparative and World Literature, and the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory.
Graduate students are encouraged to consider the completion of a graduate minor, a concentration, or a certificate during their course of study. These sub-specializations are approved programs in a secondary area of study that relate to a student’s primary specialization. They may appear on the student’s academic transcript: Concentrations, Minors, and Certificates.
