Overview

Our graduate program offers two specializations for the MA in French: French Studies and French Applied Linguistics, and three specializations for the PhD: French Studies, French Linguistics and French SLATE. Graduate Students in French can also obtain a PhD Certificate in Romance Linguistics and in Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE), and choose from a variety of graduate minors and certificates for additional qualifications. In keeping with our long tradition, core courses in all our degree programs are taught primarily in French.

Financial Aid

All admitted students receive financial aid either in the form of teaching assistantships, fellowships, or research assistantships. Many of our students have received prestigious School and College fellowships as well as external fellowships and grants. External funds secured by our students include an NSF dissertation grant, the Bourse Chateaubriand, and a dissertation research grant from the Educational Testing Service.
