Our graduate program offers three main specializations for an MA or PhD in French: French Studies, French Linguistics and French Language Learning/SLATE. Graduate Students in French can also obtain a PhD Certificate in Romance Linguistics and in Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE), and choose from a variety of graduate minors and certificates for additional qualifications. In keeping with our long tradition, core courses in all our degree programs are taught primarily in French.
All admitted students receive financial aid either in the form of teaching assistantships, fellowships, or research assistantships. Many of our students have received prestigious School and College fellowships as well as external fellowships and grants. External funds secured by our students include an NSF dissertation grant, the Bourse Chateaubriand, and a dissertation research grant from the Educational Testing Service
