Congratulations to Professors Julie Gaillard and Aurore Mroz on the selection of their projects for the LAS-OVCDEI Inclusive Pedagogy Certificate Spring 2023 program!
This highly competitive award will provide the 16 selected faculty participants, including Professors Gaillard and Mroz, with funding for a one-course release in Spring 2023 to help with the design or revision of syllabi or course materials to be taught for the academic year of 2023-2024. Professor Gaillard’s project is to revise “Reality of Images, Images of Reality”, a course she taught during her first semester at the University of Illinois, under the rubric 'FR 324 Literature and the Other Arts'. Professor Mroz will redesign the department’s former pronunciation and oral skills course (FR 213) under the new title of “FR 313 Worldwide Spoken French."
The 14-week program engages faculty in online/in-person (hybrid) experiential learning and teaches instructors practical tools for designing courses geared towards diverse populations of undergraduate and graduate students. Some of the topics covered in the program are:
- understanding the role of bias, identifying microaggressions, and employing micro-interventions in the classroom,
- fostering accessibility and managing power dynamics and conflict in the classroom for women faculty, LGBTQI faculty, international faculty, and faculty of color,
- constructing inclusive syllabi, assignments, and classroom policies
- and more.
Congratulations to both on this award!
